WWL New Orleans 870

On October 28, 2017, I received WWL in San Diego. It’s the only station starting with W that I’ve received since starting to DX again. This is despite KRLA Glendale being on the same frequency, as well as a Mexican station I haven’t identified yet.

I was using a Tecsun PL-880 held perpendicular to KRLA, effectively nulling it out enough to let WWL through. First I heard a reference to The Saints, which wasn’t conclusive of course. Then it faded out. A while later it returned, and I heard somebody mention Southeast Louisiana. It returned for a third time and I clearly heard somebody say WWL, New Orleans. It was only audible for less than a minute each time. I haven’t heard it since then, although I check frequently.

So was this an anomaly? I don’t know, but it’s the kind of thing that keeps things interesting. Now, if I could only hear WLS that’s waiting somewhere behind that St. George Utah station.
